Aloha All-
Sorry, I agree with the above posters and will avoid all sodas- diet or otherwise. I gave up a pretty hefty habit of over 8 Diet Pepsi's per day ( the big 20 ouncers) and refused to believe the supposed links of diet soda to obesity ( How? No calories!) til the studies published last year showed a relationship between diet sodas and metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance/ etc.
Not only did I drink Diet Pepsis daily, I also had a little machine that carbonated my bottled water for me- I loved the bubbles and refilled the CO2 cannisters in the machine on a regular basis. So giving up the carbonation was hard for me, too.
But I have found that there is really only room in my new sleeve for one phase- liquid, solid OR gas -I'm a terrific burper now. If I eat, I can't drink ( mealtime rule), if I drink, I must eructate any gas that may be in my tummy. So I think there may be something to stretching out your sleeve if you drink it on a regular basis.
The caffeine in the caffeinated sodas may negate the water you drink that is keeping your kidneys flushed through on this higher protein diet, as well as the water that is keeping your renal system clear of calcium oxalate stones.

I agree with everyone above... It isn't worth it. I have sipped some soda since surgery, and it ws extremely unfulfilling! I'm an oddball anyway since even pre-op I never liked carbonation. I'd buy 2-liters and let them go flat in the fridge before drinking them anyway... but even without the fizz, the sweetners are no good for your body, and I find that I don't even crave them anymore. I did the first week or so, but after I've been exercising and drinking lots of water, I don't have room in my belly to waste on sodas. Just remember it's not a nutritional choice... your body isn't craving a soda, your mind is. Your body wants water or juice or milk... something with substance.
And I'm with Lori, I didn't dish out 10k to throw it away on soda. :)

I drink it occasionally after it sits out for hours..LOL and usually only sips...I drank one the other day. It was not diet coke but hansens diet soda w/splenda. I had to let it sit out almost four hours before it settled down enough for me to sip it. I sipped for an entire day and then part of the next for one soda and I diluted it with ocean spary diet crangrape. Eh, that is hard work but once in a while I just want one. :-)

I used to drink 2-6 cans of Caffeine Free Diet Coke a day. I gave it up pre-op (cold turkey worked better for me than tapering off) and I don't miss it at all.
